The Waltham Clock Company was formed in January of 1897 in a town called Waltham, Mass. The company was originally made to build high-grade tall clock movements. It was meant to compete with some of the German and English firms which were importing movements into the United States with larger and larger numbers. This firm succeeded a company called the Waltham Electric Clock Company, which had dissolved previously, leaving the manufacturing of electric clocks discontinued in the company.
The Waltham Clock company was purchased by the Waltham Watch company in 1913. This was done in an effort to diversify the watch business for Waltham. The name Waltham Watch Company was later adopted for all operations. The company produced tall clocks until the 1920s, and stopped making pendulum clocks around the time of the great depression. Afterward, electric clocks and speedometers were manufactured. These were made until around 1940.
