A tambour clock is a clock that has a rounded top, a flat base, and usually rounded or maybe ridged sides. These clocks are basically shelf clocks with a different cosmetic swirl to them. These clocks are usually pretty small, just big enough to fit nicely on a shelf, table, or even a mantel. These clocks are usually made from wood, but some of them are made of metal or even porcelain. Many of the more prominent clockmakers have at least dabbled in the field of tambour clocks, with several making a lot of money off of the style. The clocks are usually quite simple, not too fancy. Of course there are some fancy ones, but for the most part they are just plain and practical. If you collect tambour clocks, don't forget to check your local paper for sales. Sometimes these get overlooked, and you can snatch them up for a real deal.
