The Seth Thomas Antique clock company was a joint stock corporation that was organized on May 3, 1853. This date succeeded the earlier clock making operations of the founder. Actually, Seth Thomas had been making clocks at this same site since 1814. After the death of Seth Thomas, the company was handed over to his son Aaron. When Aaron became president, he began to add new products to the very conservative clock line.
The Seth Thomas clock company continued to prosper until the 20th century. Actually, they had a reputation for being one of the best clock manufacturing companies in Connecticut. Between the years of 1865 and 1879, the clock company operated another firm known as Seth Thomas' Sons and Company, which was a firm that manufactured much higher grade clocks. The plant moved to Georgia in 1975, and in 2003 an in house collection was sold to private collectors, marking the end of the Seth Thomas clock company.
