The Self Winding Clock Company was a manufacturer of clocks whose life span went from 1886 until around 1970. The company was located in New York City, though the business also had a branch which was located in Chicago. The company did a lot of work for a lot of famous business, including names like the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company on the Tower, Western Union, and the London Underground. The company did not make their own clock movements, but rather used movements made by other prominent producers. These names included names like H.C. Thompson, Seth Thomas, and Howard. The case style of the company was a lot like the style sported by the companies of Howard and Seth Thomas, and featured fitted winding devices mounted on various different case designs.
The company closed down in the 1970s, but the clocks they made are still considered collectors' items by many collectors.
