Plato Clocks

The plato clock was a clock design patented by Eugene L. Fitch of New York. He first patented this clock in 1903, and made the clock in four basic models. The clock was a huge success, becoming a main item at the Ever Ready Exhibit. Over 40,000 of these clocks were sold, but because of resistance at the retail trade level, they were sold instead as novelty items. The clocks were made by the Ansonia Clock Company of the United States, and by the Junghans Clock Company in Europe. There was also a French company that produced the famous clocks. The clocks are very interesting, forsaking the normal hands and faces most clocks sport for a sort of mechanical plate reading. Collectors of these clocks should be careful when cleaning these clocks, as the outer surface can be delicate and damaged semi easily.
