The Lenzkirch clock factory was originally founded by a man named Eduard Hauser with the help of a mechanical organ maker who was known as Ignaz Schopperle. This company was the oldest among the clock factories of the Black Forest in Germany, which is very well known for being a hotspot when it came to clocks. The two founders began in 1849, working in a very small factory in Lenzkirch. They built clock movements, which were pre assembled and ready for installation. They used the new serial assembly, meaning that they pretty much at first just specialized in clock movements.
The company had a reputation for refusing to cut corners, insisting on creating the highest quality clocks available. This caused the company to fall behind financially, and the company was dissolved in August of 1929. The building stayed busy though, housing several other businesses through the years.
