The Ithaca clock company was founded in 1865. Founded with very little capital, the company grew by leaps and bounds. The company initially focused on building clocks from the patents awarded to Henry B. Horton on April 15th, 1865 and August 28th, 1866. The company remained in business until March of 1917 during World War 1. At this time, its assets were sold in a public bankruptcy auction, and the Ithaca clock company was no more.
Henry Horton patented some extraordinary designs, including some iron front cases in 1866, which were among the first of this type produced by Ithaca. The iron used by Horton was actually cast at a local foundry in Ithaca New York, and the company used clock movements from E.N. Welch, Pomeroy, and before 1890, Laporte Hubbell. The Ithaca clock company produced fine clocks that are considered investments today by collectors.
