The Hershede Clock Company was founded by Frank Herschede. Frank was born on the 30th of July back in 1857. His hometown was Cincinnati, Ohio. When he was sixteen years old, he started an apprenticeship working as a clock and watch repairman. By the time 1877 rolled around, he was in business for himself. He moved to Vine and 5th in Cincinnati, and not only did clocks, but also did jewelry, watches, diamonds etc. In 1855, his store had grown so considerably that he had to move to a bigger building. Later on, Frank even purchased a cabinet shop to make the cases for himself.
The company is still in existence, but it has undergone several changes of hands. But, after all, it still retains the name of its founder, that of Frank Herschede. The plant now builds replacement parts for existing Herschede clocks.
