Gothic clocks were made by many of the prominent clock companies that produced clocks around the same time as Seth Thomas. These clocks were generally dark in color, had wood cases, and were really more plain than most clocks. Some had curved or ridged tops, which gave them their own unique element of style. These clocks, like many other types of clocks made at that time, had a key that came with the clock that you needed when you wanted to wind the clock up. These clocks did not have little knobs like modern windup clocks, and if you lost the key you either needed to go back to the clockmaker, or you were out of luck. Many collectors really like these kinds of clocks because of the history around them. They were developed at a unique time in history, and they reflect the feelings and philosophies that were floating around back then.
