The carriage clock was a clock that succeeded the older design of a clock called the traveling clock. The first carriage clock was built in 1796, and after that the design flourished. This clock was made for use away from a permanent resting place. Moving clocks was always a great concern, as most clocks featured designs that would be thrown off by movement. This meant that after moving a clock, it would show an inaccurate time. This was due to a lot of different technical reasons, but it happened. The Carriage clocks were a new generation of movable clocks that could be moved without upsetting the delicate inner workings, thus leaving the clock keeping accurate time even on the go. This proved invaluable to many different people back then, just as the accurate clocks we use today help us. Accurate time is an incalculable advantage.
