Back in 1850, Nathaniel L. Bradley, who at the time was twenty-one years old, gave up farming to start selling clocks. And sell he did! In fact, he was so successful, that he was soon elected director of a clock company! Around the year 1852, Bradley went in with the Hatch brothers to form the Bradley-Hatch Company. This company was very successful, and by 1854 needed an expansion. The Hatch brothers left, leaving Bradley with the new Bradley and Hubbard. In addition to building clocks in the factory, the brother-in-laws also made oil lamps. They designed and sold an entire line of fine oil lamps. They also got into building fine burners for stoves, which met with great success.
It seems that his skill at sales served Mr. Bradley well, as he became a very wealthy and successful man in the area of business around New York.
